Do i need to lay sand/hardcore cement? or just as they are? any tips would be usefull, thanks for all answers.....

i have laid plenty of patios and paving so may i suggest a quick siple way to do it , firm the ground , then make a dry mix of cement and sharp sand ,5prts sand 1 cement throw this down and roughly even it, then lay your first slab check its level ,twist the slab down to level it check its level then lay 3/4 slabs and check there level to ,do this untill you have your base then brush the mix in to the joins , if you have left a gap 1/4 inch is enough you can but join (pushed together) as well give it at least 24 hrs then put your green house on and enjoy

Planting Your Tomato Plants

Though there are numerous things that you can put into your garden from seed to maturity with relative ease, tomato plants are slightly different. Tomatoes are potentially one item you use more than any other type of vegetable. They don't seem to be quite as easy to grow and need rather more attention. Your complete garden wants care, but your tomatoes are going to grow differently than your squish or pumpkins and will even be subjected to blight, which can imply your garden is condemned. Read up a bit for better care of tomatoes and other like plants that aren't quite as simple to grow. One thing that makes tomatoes different than other sorts of veggies that you will grow in your garden is that you're going to plant them as tomato plants instead of just seeds. You can grow your tomatoes from seed, but you've got to start inside and much sooner than you would plant a garden. If you wait for the last frost, you are often too late to plant them in order that they are prepared in time.

You should purchase the plants all good to go if you don't get to plant the seeds sufficiently early in the year. If you'd like to start your tomato plants from seed, you've got to discover how shortly in the year you need to plant them. You'll find boxes that are made just for the sake of beginning your own tomato plants at home. You then plant them and keep them in a warm area in order that they can start growing. When you are prepared to plant the remainder of your garden, they deserve to be sufficiently large to be planted outside with the rest you're going to grow that year.

If you do not kick off your own, you should buy the tomato plants already started and good to go into the ground. Remember you're going to dig a larger hole to insert the whole root system which has already started to grow. You must also ensure that they're spaced far enough apart in order that they have masses of room to grow or your plants will not get huge and you may not get many tomatoes out of any of them.

A foot of space between the plants is the minimum, and more space is ever better between your tomato plants. Once the plants have begun to grow, you're going to see yellow flowers are growing. Here's where your tomatoes are going to grow. This is when you need to start considering staking your plants.

This implies you have got to gently tie the plant to enormous stakes so they stay up off the ground. Your tomato plants will still grow tomatoes if you do not do this, but your tomatoes will rot before they can ripen if they are growing on the ground. A plastic ground covering can also aid in keeping the tomatoes healthy from bugs and rot.

commercial greenhouse gardening

lots of early vegetables with greenhouse gardening

300px Greenhouse 4 Do You Have Space for a Commercial Greenhouse – They make great Greenhouse Gardening!

Image via Wikipedia

I recently bought a commercial greenhouse, and I have to say that I am pretty pleased with it. The builder explained a lot of things to me, and I learned as much about planting as I did about green houses. There is no firm line between commercial greenhouses and ones for private use, easy. Putting together a commercial greenhouse is largely a matter of what you are doing with it.

You see, I decided to build a greenhouse long ago, and had succeeded pretty efficiently. My own greenhouse was by far the best one in the neighbourhood. I grew All kinds of things, from rare and exotic plants to staple crops. When I decided to upgrade to a commercial greenhouse, however, I was mostly thinking about incorporating a bigger space. Building a greenhouse had been fun, but I had been growing so many medicinal herbs that I was actually getting orders for them. Having a brand-new, cold frame greenhouse seemed like the natural solution.

I was really surprised when my builder told me that I did not need a whole new commercial greenhouse. He agreed with my idea to add on some space, but he suggested that, if I reorganized the greenhouse that I already had, I could just build a separate addendum. I I decided to take his opinion pretty seriously, since he had no reason to lie to me. He would have made a lot more money off of building a brand-new commercial greenhouse, but instead he told me that I should organize my plants more efficiently. He told me that most people who grow in green houses do not realize how little room plans actually need. Provided that the greenhouse has sufficient oxygen and the temperature and moisture content are carefully regulated, a commercial greenhouse can be literally packed with plants.

The great thing about running the commercial greenhouses according to his plans was that it actually saved me a lot of energy. You see, the more carefully packed your greenhouse is, the less energy it uses. There are more plants to suck up the available water and heat, and it is easier to control all of the climate factors in a smaller space. Sometimes I still think about how neat it would be to have the huge commercial greenhouse that I had originally envisioned, but I know I'm better off the way I ended up doing things.

How do i grow herbs and veg in a greenhouse???

Hey, looking for any info at all about growing herbs...im getting a small walk-in greenhouse for the back garden..i want to grow herbs and veg like tomatoes & mange tout and stuff.
any good sites, books or info...when to plant, how much heat, how to look after them..thanks

Hi:
I have germinated thousands of herb and vegetables seeds in my greenhouse. I am not sure how big your greenhouse is, but there are a couple of things that are critical for good germination of herbs and vegetables. Water and light of course, and also providing the right soil for their root development.

Purchase a light weight potting soil, with no bark. Add some vermiculite and humus to the soil. A key to good germination is add some hot tap water to the soil mixture. This will help your seeds develop properly. Once they develop into plugs and establish their root systems, you can transplant them into pots or outside.

Germination temperatures for herbs and vegetables do well from 66 to 72 degrees. I will link you to the spices and herb section of my website. There is a page on growing herbs from seeds. This may give you some additional information. I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. There are many articles, tips and techniques that may help you.

Make sure you know the light requirements of each specimen. Basil likes to germinate in darkness. If you buy good quality seeds, it should tell you on the package. Hope this helps some and good luck to you! Have a great day!

i'm starting my plants for my garden in my greenhouse and need a ton of 4"(ish) plastic pots. like the one you buy plants @ the store in. don't care if they're round or square!

Hi Fox -

Try these:

http://shop.horticultureguy.com/

And Gurneys usually sells plant and plant cells to start seeds and starters:

Whatever you buy, make sure you are buying clean and sterile pots (which may not be the case at a 'hardware' store). The above merchants sell clean stuff for greenhouses and see startings.
